# Account Permission: Create New Group

You can assign [group permissions](https://support.smarteru.com/docs/user-group-permissions) or [account permissions](https://support.smarteru.com/docs/user-account-permissions) to a user by [editing their user profile](https://support.smarteru.com/docs/editing-a-user-manually).

The functions available to users with the Create New Group account permission are detailed below.

## Account Admin

### Groups Dashboard

Users with the Create New Group account permission can do the following from the [Groups Dashboard](/v1/docs/groups-dashboard):

- [Add new groups](/v1/docs/adding-a-group). The user will be able to enter information in the [Group Information](/v1/docs/group-group-information), [Tags](/v1/docs/group-tags), and [Home Group Message](/v1/docs/group-home-group-message) (if the [account's **Home Group Branding** setting](/v1/docs/account-settings#enable-home-group-branding) is enabled) accordions of the Add/Edit Group workscreen. However, their ability to assign [learning plans](/v1/docs/group-learning-plans), [courses](/v1/docs/group-courses), [subscriptions](/v1/docs/group-subscriptions), and [users](/v1/docs/group-users) to the group will be dependent on other permissions.
