# Action: Tags

The [tags](/v1/docs/tags) and [values](/v1/docs/tag-pre-defined-values) associated with an action are managed in the Tags accordion of the [Add](/v1/docs/adding-an-action)/[Edit Action](/v1/docs/editing-an-action) workscreen.

## Associating Tags with an Action

- Before you can associate tags with an action, you must [add the tags](/v1/docs/adding-a-tag) using the [Tag Management Dashboard](/v1/docs/tag-management-dashboard).
- You may also associate the action with a tag from the [Associations accordion of the Add/Edit Tag workscreen](/v1/docs/tag-associations).

To associate an action with tags:

1. From the Add/Edit Action workscreen, expand the Tags accordion.
2. From the **Available Tags** list, click the ![Plus 20210806](https://cdn.document360.io/7efaadab-fef6-4186-806a-2ca14c9ce9ea/Images/Documentation/Plus%2020210806.png)beside the tags you want to associate with the action.

1. Click the ![Plus 20210806](https://cdn.document360.io/7efaadab-fef6-4186-806a-2ca14c9ce9ea/Images/Documentation/Plus%2020210806.png) beside the **Available Tags** list.

A new field is added for each selected tag.

When you associate a tag with an action from the Add/Edit Action workscreen, you must [assign at least one value to the tag](/v1/docs/action-tags#assigning-values-to-action-tags).

1. Click **Save**.

## Assigning Values to Action Tags

To assign values to an action's tags:

1. From the Add/Edit Action workscreen, expand the Tags accordion.
2. Click in the tag's field. A list of the tag's pre-defined values displays.
3. From the list, select the values you want to assign.

If the [tag allows users to add values](https://support.smarteru.com/v1/docs/tag-main#allow-users-to-add-their-own-values), the list will also include other values that were previously specified for the tag. You can enter a new value and press ENTER after each value, or enter all the values (separated by a comma) then press ENTER.

1. Click **Save**.

## Removing Tags or Values from an Action

To remove a tag and all its values from an action:

1. From the Add/Edit Action workscreen, expand the Tags accordion.
2. Click the ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7efaadab-fef6-4186-806a-2ca14c9ce9ea/Images/Documentation/image-1655489861326.png) beside the tags you want to remove from the action.
3. Click **Save**.

To remove a tag's value from the action, click the X beside the value.

At least one value must be assigned to an action's tag. If you want to remove all values, you should also remove the tag from the action.
