# Adding a License Type

In order to use this feature, be sure to enable [licensing](https://support.smarteru.com/docs/account-settings#enable-licensing) for your account.

To add a license type:

1. From the Admin menu, select **Account Admin**.
2. Select **Licensing**. The [Licensing Dashboard](/v1/docs/licensing-dashboard) displays.
3. Click **License Type**.

A new tab displays the Add/Edit License Type workscreen.

1. Specify the [license type's settings](/v1/docs/adding-a-license-type#settings).
2. Click **Save**.

## Settings

### Name

The name of the license type.

### Status

The status of the license type:

- Active - The license type may be [associated with certifications](/v1/docs/certification-licensing) or [users](/v1/docs/user-licensing).
- Inactive - The license type may not be associated with certifications or users.

### Description

A description of the license type.
