# Adding a Licensing Category

In order to use this feature, be sure to enable [licensing](https://support.smarteru.com/docs/account-settings#enable-licensing) for your account.

To add a licensing [category](/v1/docs/categories):

1. From the Admin menu, select **Account Admin.**
2. Select **Licensing**. The [Licensing Dashboard](/v1/docs/licensing-dashboard) displays.
3. Click **Category**.

A new tab displays the Add/Edit Category workscreen.

1. Specify the [category's settings](/v1/docs/adding-a-licensing-category#settings).
2. Click **Save**.

## Settings

### Name

The name of category.

### Status

Select the category's status:

- Active - The category may be [associated with a certification](/v1/docs/certification-licensing).
- Inactive - The category may not be associated with a certification.

### Description

A description of the category.
