# Article: Tags

The Tags accordion of the Add/Edit Article workscreen displays the [default tags that have been associated with the article's template](/v1/docs/article-template-tags). From the Tags accordion, you can [associate additional tags with the article](/v1/docs/article-tags#associating-tags-with-an-article) and [assign values to the tags](/v1/docs/article-tags#assigning-values-to-an-articles-tags).

## Associating Tags with an Article

The [tags associated with the article's template](/v1/docs/article-template-tags) are displayed by default. To associate additional tags with an article:

1. From the Add/Edit Article workscreen, expand the Tags accordion.
2. From the **Available Tags** list, click the ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7efaadab-fef6-4186-806a-2ca14c9ce9ea/Images/Documentation/article-tags-image-fmx7fzmr.png) beside the tags you want to associate with the article.

1. Click the ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7efaadab-fef6-4186-806a-2ca14c9ce9ea/Images/Documentation/article-tags-image-gqh512k7.png) beside the **Available Tags** list.

A new field is added for each selected tag.

1. [Assign values to the tags](/v1/docs/article-tags#assigning-values-to-an-articles-tags).

When you associate a tag with an article from the Add/Edit Article workscreen, you must [assign at least one value to the tag](/v1/docs/article-tags#assigning-values-to-an-articles-tags).

1. Click **Save**.

## Assigning Values to an Article's Tags

To assign values to an article's tags:

1. From the Add/Edit Article workscreen, expand the Tags accordion.
2. Click in the tag's field. A list of the [tag's pre-defined values](/v1/docs/tag-pre-defined-values) displays.

1. From the list, select the values you want to assign.

If the [tag allows users to add values](/v1/docs/tag-main#allow-users-to-add-their-own-values), the list will also include other values that were previously specified for the tag. You can enter a new value and press ENTER after each value, or enter all the values (separated by a comma) then press ENTER.

You must assign at least one value to each tag.

1. Click **Save**.

## Removing Tags or Values from an Article

To remove a tag and all its values from an article:

1. From the Add/Edit Article workscreen, expand the Tags accordion.
2. Click the ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7efaadab-fef6-4186-806a-2ca14c9ce9ea/Images/Documentation/article-tags-image-wkf8o9hj.png) beside the tags you want to remove from the article.
3. Click **Save**.

To remove a tag's value from an article, click the X beside the value.

At least one value must be assigned to an article's tag. If you want to remove all values, you should also remove the tag from the article.

The following error message displays if you attempt to remove a tag or value from an article, but the article is the last one displayed on a [dashboard set page](/v1/docs/pages) that [filters on the tag value](https://support.smarteru.com/docs/page-configuration-for-knowledge-base-pages#available-tags):

> The following tag value(s): <TagValue>
> 
> Are being used as filtered tags in the following Learner Dashboard page(s): <DashboardSetName> - <Page Name>
> 
> These values cannot be removed until the tags are removed from the Learner Dashboard page.

We recommend removing the tag filter from the dashboard set's page before removing the tag and value from the article.
