# Article Template: Tags

The [tags](/v1/docs/tags) associated with an [article template](/v1/docs/knowledge-bases-article-templates) are managed in the Tags accordion of the Add/Edit Template workscreen.

![Tags](https://cdn.document360.io/7efaadab-fef6-4186-806a-2ca14c9ce9ea/Images/Documentation/article-template-tags-image-ev9gg4hg.png)

Articles that use this template will display the template's tags by default. However, users may assign [additional tags](/v1/docs/article-template-tags#associating-tags-with-a-template) or [remove tags](/v1/docs/article-template-tags#removing-tags-from-a-template) when they [create](/v1/docs/adding-an-article) or [edit an article](/v1/docs/editing-an-article).

Unlike other objects that may be associated with a tag (i.e., [courses](/v1/docs/courses), [groups](/v1/docs/groups), and [subscriptions](/v1/docs/subscriptions)), only the [tag is associated with the template](/v1/docs/article-template-tags#associating-tags-with-a-template). You can specify the values for these tags when you [create an article](/v1/docs/adding-an-article) that uses the template.

## Associating Tags with a Template

Before you can associate tags with a template, you must [add the tags](/v1/docs/adding-a-tag) using the [Tag Management Dashboard](/v1/docs/tag-management-dashboard).

To associate the template with tags:

1. From the **Admin** menu, select **Knowledge Base**.
2. Select the knowledge base containing the template.
3. Select the template.
4. From the Add/Edit Template workscreen, expand the Tags accordion.

If tags were previously added to the template, fields for these tags display.

1. From the **Available Tags** list, click the ![Add](https://cdn.document360.io/7efaadab-fef6-4186-806a-2ca14c9ce9ea/Images/Documentation/article-template-tags-image-ocii847a.png) beside the tags you want to associate with the template.

A new field is added for each selected tag.

These fields will be non-editable since [values are assigned](/v1/docs/article-tags#assigning-values-to-an-articles-tags) when you [add an article](/v1/docs/adding-an-article) that uses the template.

## Removing Tags from a Template

Removing tags from the template will not affect any existing articles that use the template.

To remove tags from the template:

2. Select the knowledge base containing the template.
3. Select the template.
4. From the Add/Edit Template workscreen, expand the Tags accordion.
