# Certifications

Certifications are a part of [learning plans](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/learning-plans). They provide a way for you to bundle the competencies that users must demonstrate to prove their ability to perform their role or job function. For example, floor supervisors might be required to show competence in areas related to safety, machinery, and team management each year.

Within each certification are one or more [requirements](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/requirements) that the user must complete. Requirements contain the [courses](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/courses) the user must complete, and/or the [actions](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/actions) they need to take.
