# Course: Prerequisites

A course's prerequisites are those courses that the learner must complete or actions that must be accepted before the learner can begin the course.

A course's prerequisites are assigned in the Prerequisites accordion of the Course Information workscreen.

- You can specify any course that you have access to as a prerequisite.
- You can override prerequisites by [editing a learner's enrollment.](/v1/docs/enrollment-report-editing-an-enrollment)
- Administrators and course managers will be able to see prerequisite courses that were previously assigned to All Groups.

## Assigning Prerequisites

A course must be [assigned to at least one group](/v1/docs/course-groups#assigning-groups-to-a-course) in order for it to be a prerequisite.

To specify prerequisites for a course:

1. Add or edit the [online](/v1/docs/editing-an-online-course), [SCORM](/v1/docs/editing-a-scorm-course), or [instructor-led](/v1/docs/editing-an-instructor-led-course) course.
2. From the Course Information workscreen, expand the Prerequisites accordion.
3. If you're adding prerequisites to an existing course, click **Add Prerequisite**.
4. Click the ![Icon  Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/7efaadab-fef6-4186-806a-2ca14c9ce9ea/Images/Documentation/course-prerequisites-image-ktiqvaov.png) beside the prerequisite courses or [action](/v1/docs/actions). The selected rows are shaded.

You may also click **Assign All** to select all courses and actions as prerequisites.

1. Select the option for the **Prerequisites Must Be** setting that is below the grid. The selected option applies to all prerequisite courses. Prerequisite credentials need to be accepted.

- Completed Only - users must complete all prerequisite courses before they can begin this course.
- Completed & Passed - users must complete and pass all prerequisite courses before they can begin this course.

1. Click **Save**.

## Removing Prerequisites

A prerequisite [course must be assigned to at least one group](/v1/docs/course-groups#assigning-groups-to-a-course) in order for it to be removed as a prerequisite.

To remove a prerequisite from a course:

1. Edit the [online](/v1/docs/editing-an-online-course), [SCORM](/v1/docs/editing-a-scorm-course), or [instructor-led](/v1/docs/editing-an-instructor-led-course) course.
2. From the Course Information workscreen, expand the Prerequisites accordion.
3. Click the ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7efaadab-fef6-4186-806a-2ca14c9ce9ea/Images/Documentation/course-prerequisites-image-crkrcfbk.png) beside the course or action you want to remove as a prerequisite.
4. Click **Save**.
