# Customizing Email Templates

SmarterU includes a [number of email templates](/v1/docs/system-email-templates), each of which can be customized. Although you can customize all of the templates, we recommend reviewing and customizing the email templates listed in the [Prioritized Email Templates](/v1/docs/customizing-email-templates#prioritized-email-templates) section first.

To customize an email template for your account:

1. [Copy the email template](/v1/docs/copying-an-email-template).
2. [Edit the template as needed](/v1/docs/editing-an-email-template).

[Administrators and owners](/v1/docs/user-profile-information#access-level) can change the default template for the account by doing one of the following:

- Select the template from the [Email Management Dashboard](/v1/docs/email-management-dashboard), then [select the email type from the grid](/v1/docs/changing-the-accounts-default-email-templates).
- [Edit the account's](/v1/docs/editing-your-account-settings) [Email Template Options settings](/v1/docs/account-email-template-options), then select the email template for the email type.
