# Enabling Waiting Lists

Waiting lists, or wait lists, provide a way to track learners who want to enroll in a course or session that has reached its capacity. Waiting lists can be enabled for an instructor-led course, and for its sessions.

## Who Has Access

The following users can enable waiting lists:

- [Course managers](/v1/docs/course-course-managers) (for the courses they manage)
- [Administrators or owners](/v1/docs/user-profile-information#access-level).

## Enabling the Waiting List for a Course

To enable a waiting list for an instructor-led course:

1. [Edit the instructor-led course](/v1/docs/editing-an-instructor-led-course).
2. Check the [**Enable Waiting List for This Course** checkbox](/v1/docs/instructor-led-course-main#enable-waiting-list-for-this-course) that's located in the Main accordion.

1. Click **Save**.

## Enabling the Waiting List for a Session

To enable the waiting list for a session:

1. [Enable the waiting list for the instructor-led course](/v1/docs/enabling-waiting-lists#enabling-the-waiting-list-for-a-course).
2. [Add a session](/v1/docs/adding-a-session) to the course, or [edit an existing session](/v1/docs/editing-a-session).
3. Check the [**Enable Waiting List for This Session** checkbox](/v1/docs/instructor-led-session-main#enable-waiting-list-for-this-session) that's located in the Main accordion of the Session Information workscreen.

You can override the course's waiting list settings by checking the [**Override Waiting List Reminder Defaults** checkbox](/v1/docs/instructor-led-session-main#override-waiting-list-reminder-defaults).  

1. Click **Save**.
