# Knowledge Bases: Article Templates

Article templates provide a way to define content placeholders, search [tags](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/tags), and attributes for related [articles](https://support.smarteru.com/v1/docs/knowledge-bases-articles). For example, suppose you plan to write articles for each of your organization's different offices around the world. You could define a template for these articles so that articles have a common layout and organization. The template could also define searchable tags that users can use to locate the article.
