# License Types

In order to use this feature, be sure to enable [licensing](https://support.smarteru.com/docs/account-settings#enable-licensing) for your account.

Within the [SmarterU licensing feature](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/licensing), you can create a license which is where you store the actual licenses you are issuing CEU credits for.

In order for learners to earn these credits, they must first have the [license associated to their user record](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/user-licensing) for that [area](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/licensing-areas-and-regions) and [agency](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/licensing-agencies), plus also complete a certification that is associated with that [area](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/licensing-areas-and-regions), [agency](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/licensing-agencies) and license.
