# Licensing Areas and Regions

In order to use this feature, be sure to enable [licensing](https://support.smarteru.com/docs/account-settings#enable-licensing) for your account.

SmarterU's licensing feature enables you to track licenses and certifications issued by [agencies](https://support.smarteru.com//v1/docs/licensing-agencies). Some licensing agencies are organized into different areas and regions. SmarterU enables you to manage the various areas and regions associated with licensing agencies. For example, an agency in the US might have regions which are the states. Or, its regions might be geographic areas (e.g., Pacific Northwest, Southeast, etc..).
