Article summary

What are organizations and how should they be used in relation to groups?

Organizations provide a way to associate users with entities that are different from the account. If you need to record the contact information (e.g., address, phone number, etc...) for an entity, you'll want to create an organization.

For example, suppose you offer courses to members of various professional associations. You could create an organization for each association. As you add users, you can associate the users with the organization to which they belong.

Suppose that these users, regardless of the association to which they belong, have access to the same courses. The users could be added to a group named Members. You would then assign the courses, subscriptions, or learning plans to the Members group.

Organizations can NOT be used to control access to courses, subscriptions, or learning plans. To control which courses, subscriptions, or learning plans users in the entity have access to, you'll want to create a group.
