SmarterU's licensing feature enables you to track and map licenses issued by other entities, such as a government agency, with learning plan certifications in your account. This feature enables you to track how courses in different learning plans and certifications apply to obtaining or maintaining a license. By using SmarterU's point tracker functionality, you can track different point values for each licensing entity for the same course content. These point values could be continuing education units (CEUs) in terms of hours or a rating scale assigned by the licensing entity.
After entering the properties associated with a license, you can define the relationships between your point trackers, courses, certifications, and learning plans. As learners complete courses, they'll earn points that are relevant to the license assigned to them through their learning plan. Once the learner meets the necessary requirements for the license, you can include the license information as well as the points information on the learner's completion certificate.
Let's say that your account has a Bookkeeping Professional certification that aligns with the Agency of Finance Management's Certified Public Bookkeeper license. The Agency's license requires learners to complete courses in different categories:
- Accounting Principles
- Payroll
The Agency of Finance offers their Certified Public Bookkeeper license in multiple states. For the purpose of this example, we'll focus only on two states: Florida and New York.
All learners, regardless of their state, must complete 10 continuing education units (CEUs) in the Accounting Principles category. However, for the Payroll category, learners in FL need to complete 10 CEUs, but learners in NY need to complete 15 CEUs.
To track the number of CEUs that learners have earned in each category, we'll set up new point trackers for each unique agency and area/region combination.
Next we'll need to associate courses that are relevant to the license to the appropriate point tracker and specify the category and number of points (or CEUs) learners will earn. For example, learners in both FL and NY will earn 5 CEUs in the Accounting Principles category after completing the Accounting 101 course.
